| WHAT IS GELATO? |
| |
|
Gelato in Italian means "frozen" and is commonly used to refer to any milk or water based frozen dessert. In the United States, we tend to think of gelato as "Italian Style Ice Cream." While gelato contains the same ingredients as traditional ice cream, it is actually a very different product. Gelato has much less butterfat (4% - 8% versus 12% - 18%) and air (10% or less versus 50% - 100%) than ice cream and is designed to be eaten within days of production rather than months or years later. Also, gelato is served at a warmer freezing temperature that enables you to fully enjoy its dense velvety texture and appreciate all of the fresh natural flavors.
